Midorino Kaeru Profile
Born in 1961, Midorino Kaeru moved
to Australia with her family at the age
of 36, and now resides in Adelaide,
South Australia. Today, she works as
a washi artist based in Australia,
creating and exhibiting her work both
locally and internationally.
At the age of 50, she was captivated by
the delicate beauty of washi, one of
Japan's treasured traditional crafts. Drawing on her skills from a career in
hairdressing, she developed her own unique method to create works that inspire and move audiences. Her exhibitions, held across Australia and abroad, share this beauty with the world. The central theme of her art is "A message from a world Without Words"- expressing the coexistence of nature and humanity, the importance of protecting our planet, and reflections on the value and fragility of life, as well as the powerful resilience of the natural world. Her work delivers messages that are at once delicate and strong. As pioneer of new approaches to art appreciation, she blends music and visual art to create a mystical atmosphere that breathes life,
wonder, and healing into her audiences.
Each piece becomes a conversation with the viewer about the themes that will shape our shared future.
Acting as a bridge between cultures, she is committed to sharing the beauty of washi and the depth of Japanese culture with the world.
Masumi Hiyoshi
Piano Instrumental Artist / Composer
Masumi Hiyoshi made her debut in 1999 with the album Dear. Over the following two decades, she established a prolific career as a piano instrumental artist, releasing 14 original albums, three "best-of" collections, and a dramatic soundtrack. Upon reaching her 20th anniversary, she took a moment to reflect on her journey and decided to temporarily close the lid of her piano.
Seeking new creative horizons, she immersed herself in the world of Japanese calligraphy. This path led her to "live painting," where she began performing on stage with a brush. However, in the summer of 2023, as if guided by an unseen force, her passion for music was reignited, and she officially resumed her career as a pianist.
Her return marked the beginning of a new chapter: the world of improvisation. Reborn as an artist, she launched her nightly "Midnight Piano Live" sessions at 24:00 on the streaming platform Stand.fm. Her unique style—creating spontaneous compositions based on themes provided by her listeners—is deeply narrative and rich with messaging. This approach has resonated with a vast audience, leading her to dominate the midnight rankings as the number-one artist for 19 consecutive months.
Her improvisational style eschews overly technical complexity in favor of striking, beautiful melodies. Filled with cinematic emotion and a poetic, translucent quality, her music brings a fresh, unprecedented breeze to the world of modern pianism. With a repertoire of over 2,000 improvised compositions, she released her latest album, "Shun-on," a collection of her improvised works, in October 2024. Following the release, she successfully completed a nationwide tour across Japan, performing in Osaka, Akita, Fukuoka, Sapporo, and Tokyo.
