Supporting artistic expression for People with disabilities and those in vulnerable situations, and hosting related events
Through Washi art, we support and
connect people with disabilities to the broader community.
We offer hand-on workshop at disability care facilities and for families caring for loved ones with disabilities. We also visit special support schools to provide engaging washi art experiences, and supply instructional videos to children receiving hame care. Looking ahead, we are excited to expand access by planning online washi art sessions, bringing this creative journey even more people.
Planning and delivering cultural and artistic activities abroad, as well as organising international exchange events.
Through washi art created with washi, one
of Japan's cherished traditional crafts.
We weave messages we wish to share
with he world.
By bringing washi art to audiences across
the globe, we not only preserve and pass
on the richness of Japanese culture ,
but also serve as a bridge for
cross-cultural exchange, sharing the
unique beauty and spirit of washi with the world.
Midorino Kaeru Profile
Born in 1961, Midorino Kaeru moved
to Australia with her family at the age
of 36, and now resides in Adelaide,
South Australia. Today, she works as
a washi artist based in Australia,
creating and exhibiting her work both
locally and internationally.
At the age of 50, she was captivated by
the delicate beauty of washi, one of
Japan's treasured traditional crafts. Drawing on her skills from a career in
hairdressing, she developed her own unique method to create works that inspire and move audiences. Her exhibitions, held across Australia and abroad, share this beauty with the world. The central theme of her art is "A message from a world Without Words"- expressing the coexistence of nature and humanity, the importance of protecting our planet, and reflections on the value and fragility of life, as well as the powerful resilience of the natural world. Her work delivers messages that are at once delicate and strong. As pioneer of new approaches to art appreciation, she blends music and visual art to create a mystical atmosphere that breathes life,
wonder, and healing into her audiences.
Each piece becomes a conversation with the viewer about the themes that will shape our shared future.
Acting as a bridge between cultures, she is committed to sharing the beauty of washi and the depth of Japanese culture with the world.
Award-Winning Work at the 2023 Creative Culture Festival
Popular Artist Prize & Creative Culture Prize (Double Award)
This artwork questions how humanity and the natural world can coexist in the future.
At the center lies a great metropolis built by human hands. The small dots and fine lines beneath the skyscrapers represent all life and souls on Earth.
In the deep blue sea, the fading image of the Great Barrier Reef’s once-beautiful coral conveys the devastating impact of ocean warming.
The main white, towering tree symbolizes the eucalyptus of Australia, expressing the grand cycle of nature.
Particularly striking are the dark fragments clinging to the roots of the tree. When I once visited Bali, I witnessed countless plastic bags and bottles flowing from the beautiful mountainsides into the valleys, after a tropical downpour. It felt as if nature itself was confronting me with a warning. That impression is expressed here.
This is a message from a world without words. Through this washi artwork, I seek to convey the importance of protecting nature and living in harmony with it.
Sound & Visuals of This Work
The 30th Japan Art Exhibition – National Selected Artists
The trees cannot move; they can only wait for the rain to fall. And in time, from the charred trunks and the depths of the scorched earth, new life emerges shining in green and orange. When I witnessed this, I felt the powerful energy of nature itself.
“The Reviving Life of the Forest”
Within this moment lies the fragility, the preciousness, and the strength of life. It reminds us that we humans are also a part of the great cosmic cycle.
A message from a world without words, yet it is the voice of nature. What must be done by those of us living in this era is clear, to pass on to the next generation a rich and beautiful future for our Earth.
